About Me

Biography

Leilani McAdams is a student from Fort Washington, Maryland. She is currently studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, and is also part of the Arts Scholars community. In addition to being a scholar, Leilani is also a guitarist and a figure skater.

At the age of seven, she started studying classical guitar and has played compositions by Vivaldi, Sor, Bach, as well as other composers of Latin American descent. Leilani is also one of the founding members of the all girl band called SHE (She Hears Everything) along side four other talented musicians. Together they have successfully performed music from a range of genres at several local events such as weddings, schools, and fundraisers. Her love of music has prompted her to explore other skills such as audio editing, live audio engineering, and stage design. She hopes to broaden and increase her knowledge of music in the Arts Scholars program as well as use her skills to enhance their community.

In addition to being a well rounded student and musician, Leilani is also an accomplished figure skater. During her 14 years of training, she has earned two United States Figure Skating (USFS) Gold medals, and has also become a skating coach. She loves choreographing to different music and performing. One of her main goals as a coach is to get her students to explore the artistic aspects of skating as much as the athletic aspects. In high school, she also started dancing which helped enhance her expression through movement.

As a student in the Arts Scholars program, Leilani hopes to learn more about how she can apply her interests and skills to her surrounding communities. A cause she continues to use her skills and network to help is the fight to end Alzheimer's disease. She is excited to be around people who come from all walks of life in the hope to expand her own mindset and learn from a range of different perspectives. Other arts disciplines she is particularly curious in are photography, film, and other visual arts.

As a student at the University of Maryland, Leilani is striving to become a well rounded and educated member of society not only through her studies, but also through her experiences by the time she earns her degree in Electrical Engineering.
